Vacuum system

My 65 T-bird is in good running order but the vacuum system seems screwed up somehow. There is a hose coming out of the firewall that doesn't connect to anything but I assume is part of the vaccum system. The AC doesn't work and the belt has been removed, so maybe this hose has something to do with that. The problem is I can't find a clear diagram of how the vacuum system works and how ot is supposed to be configured. I have a shop manual but that really doesn't explain it clearly....or at least I can't understand it. Where can I get a diagram?

On the 1966 Thunderbird, the vacuum can for the heater/air conditioner is located behind the passenger side headlight, out of sight.
Earlier models had it located in the engine compartment on the RH shock/spring tower.

I checked out the vacuum system using the diagrams you put me on to. It looks like everything is correct but the lines for the AC system are disconnected since the AC belt is off and it isn't charged. I suspect I have to complete the loop somehow or block it off for the rest of the system to work, right? Gonna do that this week.

What do you mean by "complete the loop or block it off"? If there is no belt on the compressor, you should need to do nothing. AS you work on the system, you will be able to tell when (or if) the compressor cluch is engaged. [email protected] Harley

What I mean is this: Right now the hose for the AC unit coming off the main line goes into the vacuum cannister on the wheel well but the outlet does not have a hose coming off the cannister to the firewall. Won't the vacuum system have an opening since the outlet out of the cannister isn't plugged? Should I block this off somehow, such as inserting a screw or something into it. Or should I connect the ac hose to the firwall even though the ac doesn't work?

A vacuum hose should come off the intake manifold and include a vacuum check valve on it's way to the vacuum reservior. The small hose should come off the reservior can and go through the firewall to a "T" at the temperature valve and then on to the console heater/AC control. Don't leave the port at the vacuum reservior open. Questions?

66 tbird vacuum question

My vacuum system needs help.

I have AC, no cruise, no locks.

There is a larger hose that routes with the small hoses for the controls. Is this the supply for the heater controls? When I blow air into this hose there is a leak under the dash.
The small hose that goes to the water valve has a larger hose with it where it goes thru the firewall. This larger hose is rotted off. Is this the supply hose for the heater controls?

Can I use the other hose under the dash that supplies the rear vents and the neutral safety switch?

Also, do all these cars have the temp control device attached to fhe plenum?
