First off Thanx for all the 57 answers...another question though.
1957 under hood decal placement.
In Concours' Catalog 2002-03 edition, page 124
we purchased most of the decals but no-one there has a decal placement schematic, nor seems to know exact placement for the following decals (refer to pg 124)
6B-"genuine ford parts"
7B-"engine oil"
9B-"Regulator"
18B- "Lifeguard" door jam
20B- "ford 'OK' inspection"
2-"removing blower"
3 "ATF fluid"
4 "remove cover for summer"
10 "external resistor"
12 "starting motor"
16 "generator"

We just want to "make it right"
Any help Thunderbirds lovers and officianados?
Thanx in advance, Crash

Crash,

A detailed instruction in a single post regarding the proper placement of all those decals would put you to sleep with the longest single post this Forum has ever seen. I will attempt to describe their placement on a few posts over the next couple days.

If I may speculate why Concours Parts didn't give detailed instructions is because of creating "Ill Will" with the customer when some "Bone Head" Judge claims a decal is in the wrong place. It does happen. The answers you get here, will be checked against a car that has won multiple Gold Medallion awards and an Excellence In Authenticity award from CTCI as well as an AACA Grand National award.

First of all; check the catalog again. It tells you certain decals are applied to the glove box, door jamb, air cleaner etc. This will help segregate the task and that is the manner in which I will attempt to describe the placement. One other thing I noticed is that you said you have Inspection Stamp set #20B. That is for a '56. You should have set #20C for a '57.

You didn't make any mention of the Data Plate decal. It's placement is obvious but I wonder if it is correct. IF you care, let us know the production code of your car and the number of patent numbers on the decal and what is their background color. (clear or white)

Catch Ya Later, Tom

The first group of underhood decals will be arranged in numerical order by item number shown in the catalog you referenced.

#2 Heater Instructions:
This is mounted on top of the triangular heater scoop readable from the front of the car.

#4 Hood Block Off Plate or "Remove Cover for Summer Operation":
Place this decal on the drivers side of the Hood Block Off Plate, with lettering aligned horizontally. (edited)

#6B Air Cleaner:
Mount on flat horizontal surface of air cleaner lid, readable from outside edge.

#9B Voltage Regulator:
Mounted on voltage regulator cover, readable from front of car.

#10 Coil Decal aka "external resistor-----":
Wrap around coil between mounting bracket and coil base, place at 12:00 position, readable from front of car.

#11B Generator: You said you have #16. I hope not; #16 is used on a '55 only.
Generator Decal is mounted on generator at 12:00, readable from right front fender, ~ 1.00" behind front plate.

#12 Starter Decal:
Mounted on starter motor between terminal and forward end plate, readable from right front fender with decal @ 9:00 position. (Opposite the frame rail)

The next chapter of this book will address the placement of item #20B, the Inspection Stamp Set which are all mounted underhood also. If any of these instructions need clarification, please post the question.

Good Luck, Tom

EDIT: OOPS! I got suckered into saying Inspection Stamp Set #20B, which is for a '56. You should have #20C. I think the only difference between the two is the date stamp that goes on the heater core housing.

EDIT II: Corrected location of #4

Location of various inspection stamp decals furnished in Concours Parts, page 124, Item 20C:

"Tested Road 512":
Place one on each door frame ~ 1" above latch dove tail.

"12 VOLT"
Place on top of heater motor along shaft axis, readable from front of car. Note: if you have a replacement motor with a band around the case, wrap decal around band.

"Date Stamp"
Place on inboard forward vertical surface of heater core housing reading from top towards bottom, readable from
right front fender.

"Paint O K"
The catalog shows two of these, but I can only find one on the cars. It is placed on the hood frame, drivers side, ~ aligned with front of hood scoop.

"Glass O K"
Located on drivers side firewall, above ground strap.

"Trim O K"
Located on passenger side firewall between vent cable and hood latch.

"Final O K"
Located on inner fender panel just aft of voltage regulator, and skewed. Note: this one is mounted upside down so it is readable at right front fender.

We only have three miscellaneous decals left. Let's finish them too.

Item #3 "Trans Fluid"
Mount on inside of glove box door on the right half of the concave surface.

Item #7B "Engine Oil"
Mount on inside of glove box door on the left half of the concave surface.

Item #18B "Lifeguard Design"
Mount on frame of drivers door ~ 1" below latch mounting hardware.

I think that covers all the items you asked about. I can't explain why the car I mentioned (plus two others) only has one "Paint O K" stamp. I can't remember if there is a second stamp on any of the cars. All three cars are stuffed in a 22' x 22' garage, and there isn't a whole lot of room to examine them in detail.

If there are any questions; fire away. Tom
