transmission leak off of shifter seal

65 is leaking trans fluid off the seal where the linkage for the shifter goes in to the trans. I didn't locate much info on this in the shop manual. I know it involves dropping the pan. Stock trans on the car and I am not having problems with it other than leak. Is this something for the pros ($300 approx) or diy?

Sounds like you have a leak at the manual shaft seal, Which is an "O" ring. Actually two "O" rings since the kick down lever is inside the manual shaft. I have replaced these seals in the past; the biggest problem is getting the detent pin and spring back into place. My recommendation is to let someone else do it! I could be wrong, but I think I read the repair procedure in the shop manual.

on page 7_1 it says if leakage is found at at either the throttle lever shaft or the manual lever shaft to replace the seals. That is all I found on the subfect.

As Harely said job is a bit tricky, Especially if your laying on the ground. I agree you may want to farm it out. If i remember right you have to loosen front servo to remove tubes that go to valve body, Remove modulater so you can pull out pin to take valve body down. Then you can get to nut to remove levers, Being careful not to let spring loaded detent spring fly out
