1957 with stock twin carbs...what's the magic to synching them!??? Finally cured the intake manifold leak but they're still "not right"
Thanx in advance....this forum is a KNOCK OUT when it comes to help

Have never messed around with an E-Bird, so we have to rely on the printed word from FOMOCO. the following is an excerpt from Product Service Letter P-348, dated 6-12-57.

Synchronizing the 8 Barrel Carburetor

1. Disconnect the rear end of the throttle synchronizer rod from the rear carburetor.

2. Close the throttle plates completely on both carburetors by backing off the idle screws.

3. Adjust the throttle synchronizer rod so that the end of the rod just enters the throttle lever.

4. Attach te rear end of the throttle synchronizer rod to the rear carburetor using the retainer clip.

5. Adjust the idle R.P.M.

NOTE: If the throttle plates are not properly synchronized, it may be impossible to obtain a smooth engine idle R.P.M.

6. Adjust the idle mixture in the rear carburetor first, then adjust the idle mixture in the front carburetor.

As you probably know, these are '56 "teapot" carburetors and I have zero information about them. Classic Thunderbird Club International (CTCI) sells Holley carb manuals and the Product Service Letters to their members. Membership info may be found at: www.ctci.org

Good Luck, Tom

Hope you got it running by now, but I'll ask anyways:

Are they original Tpots? There is a big difference in the jetting between E carbs and the '55-'56 carb. If one or both are actually '55-'56's, you'll never get it right.
