Sucide birds...

TBird had a 4 door, based on the Lincoln, from 67 to 71. They had 'suicide' rear doors, that opened at the B pillar, and hinged at the rear. If one were to open the rear door while underway, and struck something with the door, both you and the door would promptly part company with the car, thus the name.

I had a 1964 Lincoln Conv. that had the suicide rear doors and they posed no problem.
One unique feature was that when you went to open or close the rear doors the window would roll down about 1/3 of the way for clearance in case someone was opening or closing the front door. It was a side show to watch this cars top go up or down with just the flick of a toggle switch. It was a fine car for the money...fun, fun, fun.

I'm new to the site.. But I have a 1970 TBird with the suicide doors .. it is in restoration.. But I will try to send in a photo.. I am not so good at this so be patient..
This thing with the S doors is what attracted me to the car.. and you are correct there was a Lincoln with the S doors .. Not so sure of the year...

My 1967 tbird has suicide doors...and 67 was the first year that they were offered on the tbird.
