Surprise, surprise, two days ago a truck showed up, a couple guys got out, and installed a speed bump on the road to my house. Yes, this is a private road and this neighborhood has an association (Someday I would like to move out!), and apparently someone decided another speed bump is in order.

This makes TWO speed bumps I have to cross to get into or out of my property.

The existing bump isn't bad, but the new one is a MOUNTAIN! Sure enough, my T-Bird scrapes it badly as it goes across. I complained to the President of the association, and he blew me off. I wrote a formal complaint to the management company, who actually was very nice, but who said she will forward my letter to the association. Whooppee!

I've also contacted my attorney, who also acted as if she could care less. But she said she would find out what the DOT specs are for such bumps, and give me the information. There are such bumps on city and county roads, and none of them give me any trouble whatsoever.

Plain and simple, I have a legal right to access my property in my own car. This car's suspension is stock Ford, with only one deviation: the car has reproduction wire wheels. These are 15"; the original wire wheels are 14".

This car will cross the bump, scraping it as it goes, but I can get across. However I DJ for certain events, and this is the only car my sound equipment will fit in. With the car loaded, I can guarantee it will not maneuver this hump at all.

In any case, does anyone here have the height specs for a 64 hardtop? I would like to compare it with my car, and have them for litigation purposes.

Although I didn't get an answer on height, I DID get action, a lot faster than I expected. This morning the pavers came back and shaved off the humps. They're still higher than I prefer, but very much improved, and at least I can drive the car over them.

And by the way, don't let anybody tell you there are no standards to these things. Later today, a rep from Sarasota County Roads & Bridges responded to an earlier call, and faxed me the specs for public roads. This might only be valid in Sarasota County; other locales probably have their own, but I DID get some specs for speed hump height.

If my memory serves me correctly, the ride height specs are listed on thunderbird ranch's website. They are listed under concourse specs, with a little looking you'll find them and the way they are mearsured, I'd imagen they are the closest thing that you'll find.

I need to throw another update into this. Last week the pavers were at it again! I stopped and asked; they said, "A few folks with Corvettes were having trouble . . ."

So I'm not the lone complainer! Now it's more like it should be.
