I have about a half inch wide gap that is about 6 inches long on the front fender of my 1956 T-bird that is partially filled with lead by a previous owner or the factory. My first thought is to fill it with lead. However, the only information that I can find on the internet about lead filling auto seams is the health risk danger.

Can anyone guide me through the process of filling the gap with lead? Or, point me in another direction.

I would find a shop that has a guy still working for them that has done the leadwork-those guys are the ones to talk to when it comes to using lead for bodywork-the tech schools don't teach that anymore.

There is a body guy in Dixon, IL who use to specialize in T-Bird restoration and has done lead work for 30+ years.

Rich Kanzler @ Dixon Metal Specialties on Route 2

Hope this helps! I see you are from Colorado, but if you want it done right?!?!?

Mike
