I've got a 56 with fender skirts.
Do any of you have experience with radials on early birds with fender skirts? I worry that they will rub, and would like so of you guys' impressions before I fork over the cash for the tires.
I would really like the improved driving characteristics of radials, but not if I have to remove the fender skirts.

there's got to be a" rim" that will bring tire a little closer to the" frame" available. not researched this yet ...try( tire clearances .com) or simular site...internet knows all the answers these days...endless knowledge available..getting the (google site) wording is the trick. good luck . my '58 bird has rims original with wider tires on it and still no rubbing at swerving and dips over railroad tracks. 5 each radial tubes installed inside radial tires on original old rims prevents slow rim leaks too, all 5 tires 8 thousand miles no problems with radial tubes in my cleaned up inside area type rims yet.

I have radials on my 56 and know a lot of others who have them on 55 and 57's. No problems with the skirts. On a 56 with 15 inch tires, the preferred size is 205 75 x 15. I am assuming you have the stock rims. Rims with different off sets could be a problem. You don't need tubes either, unless you have the aftermarket wire wheels.

I have 215X75X15s front and back on my '56, they fit fine, no rubbing or other issues. I have the Kelsey Hayes wire wheels.
