My 65 is overheating sometimes but not always. I suppose the thermostat should be replaced. The question is this: should I get a thermostat with a lower temp rating? I think the original was 160F but I read somewhere that a replacement with 140F would cure the overheating issue. Is this correct?

If you are still having problems with overheating, try a new radiator cap. It is a cheap simple fix. I thought my 66' was overheating. Everytime I drove it radiator fluid would pour out the overflow tube. I tried a new cap from Murrays. Still didn't work. Talked to the guy who rebuilt my engine and he said to go specifically to a Tbird parts supplier to get a correct cap. For 9.00, it did the trick.
