I recently aquired a 66 bird in pretty good condition. I'm trying to find out all I can about it . On the dash is a plaque that say's special Landau and a production #. Can I track this vehicles history from that #. It does have the 428 Vin Q and factory air. I doesn't have fender skirts and appears that it never did. Is this rare? Everything works, Lights, windows, locks. It has an aftermarket carb on it but it runs good. No rust at all, anywhere. Where can I find out what this car is worth? Is there a preferred place to buy parts? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Weldon Whitehurst

There is a place called Marti Auto, I think they are in the southwest. They have the infamous " Eminger Invoices". They are the 3rd copy of the original window sticker, 1 was on the car, 1 went to the dealer, and 1 was kept by Ford. Doris Eminger was her name and now MartiAuto has them. I got 4 of them for our cars and they tell you everything as to what the car came with and cost, even how much gas was in it and where it was sold to and how it was getting there. We have 65 Special Landaus that also have a dash plaque stating which # out of 4500 they are but that is about as specific as that gets. Good luck with the car, Dan

Me too!!

I bought my '66 Town Landau in Salem, Oregon last year, I know where it was assembled etc and I know (from the Thunderbird registry) that it had been advertised in E-bay in 2002 in "Eastern Oregon" .

But I would love to know how many owners, how long each had it, where they lived, how much work each had put into it (well the later ones anyway) what repairs it has had in its life etc etc ...

Can ANYBODY out there help???

Trying to find out the history of classic cars I own is a bit of a 'thing' with me.

Unfortunately you cannot find too much info on pre-1970 cars because they don't have enough numbers in the VIN. Well, online at least. I just want to know how many accidents my car has been involved in and when they happened, how many owners, etc. But so far, no dice.

What about local T'bird clubs etc? Has my car (for instance) ever been owned by a member?
Do dealers keep a list of who picked up the car when new?

Here in NZ you can go to the Post Office and get a list of previous owner for as far back as new, i.e. my 1955 F100 has all owners listed to the firm that bought it new.

I've spent time tracking down the history of my '64 from both ends (so to speak). Paid $35 for a copy of the original factory gate release which confirmed the original Ford dealership that sold the car. If your original dealership still exists, they may have old records on file..but I wasn't so lucky.

The car's title lists the current owner and previous owner's name and town. From that was able to call the prior two owners and learn the name and town of the third prior owner. Tracked it back to about 1985 but no further. States don't have old title transfer information available unfortunately.

Good luck.
