I am having trouble with the headlights on my 59 Tbird (I have none), new switch, dimmer switch, head lamps. I have tail lites and all the rest, just no head lights , Any ideas?
Start checking for power at the various locations. First check the switch to see if you have power going to the switch. If so, check to see if you have power going out to the dimmer switch. If so, check to see that you have power at the dimmer switch. Then see if you have power out at the dimmer switch (two wires - high and low beam)
No power going to the switch means a broken wire or a disconnection. No power going out of the switch means a bad switch. Power going out to the dimmer switch but no power at the dimmer switch means a broken wire.
If you have power to the dimmer switch and nothing after on either high or low beam, then the problem is likely the connection at the switch or the switch itself. Generally, the power goes to the switch and feeds the low beam filaments all the time. When the switch is depressed, power is also fed to the high beam filaments and the high indicator light.
Switches usually aren't expensive and not hard to change.
Hope this helps
