The dipstick on my 55 Bird came off last week. I ordered a new one from CASCO. I tried to install it yesterday, but it doesn't go all the way into the hole on the block. I tried the old one, and that one only goes in a bit.

Two questions: how do I install this thing correctly, and what holds it in place?

Thanks

I assume you mean the tube, not the dipstick itself.

A friend also bought one of CASCOs tubes and it would not fit. Angles were wrong and the bottom was wrong. They were told of the problem about a year ago (the top guy there). Try to find a good used one. Tell CASCO - they have a very good return policy.

The tube is held in place by a bracket off the tube that goes on one of the exhaust manifold bolts.

fomaroj,

Hill's Thunderbird Center (Google search it online) not only sells that tube (advertised as an exact duplicate) but the have a number of old Tbirds in stock that they may scavenge an original from for you. Maybe worth a call.
