My '65 convert differential has a clacking sound on deceleration. It's days might be numbered. Any ideas?
Has anyone replaced/updated a rear end with a disk brake differential from a Mustang or Crown Vic?

Do you want to replace the center section or the rear end -Backing plate to backing plate?
You can pull the center section by removing the driveshaft and the rear axles, then the nots holding it in place.

Harley,
Thanks for tip. I'm thinking about replacing the entire rear axle so that it doesn't make noise and I have disk brakes in the rear. Have you tried doing this?

Differential

The Thunderbirds with the 428 engine (Q cars) used a 9-3/8 " rear end. The 390 cars, such as the 1965 used a 9". They also had different number of splines on the axles.

Yes you could be right.. I need to check that on this car.
I do know that the housings are the same. and the axle shafts are same all 31 spline large.

I used a 69 t-bird axle that originally had a 9 3/8 put in a 9 inch 4.56 locker and bolted it into a 67u galaxie

thanks!!
D
