Hi all. On my 83 5.0 engine I have a short in the starting circuit that I could use some advise on. I installed a new battery and alternator because I had intermittent battery dying issues. But the battery still acted like it was dead. When I put an automatic charger on it it would only run for a few minutes (less than 5) before indicating a full charge. The interior lights came on and stayed on when I turned the key to "ON" and the dash lit up, but as soon as the ignition switch hit the start position I heard a little click and all electric power went out. I can repeat the cycle by putting the charger on it again for a few minutes and it does the same thing again. It sounds like a short or some kind of self-correcting fuse/breaker. All of the wiring appears ok with tight connections. Can anyone help me figure this out?

I would suspect a bad starter solenoid or starter itself...oh and make sure all the cables are nice and clean and make good contact.
