66 won't start when warm

My 66 starts right up when I frirst get in but after a drive it a while and the engine is warm there is nothing when I turn the key. If I let it sit and cool down she will turn over, and when it turns over it starts right up.

Do you hear a clicking sound from the solenoid when trying a hot start?

no clicking, just dead. The fuse block/circuit breaker/junction block(the bakalite fixture is called all 3 things in the shop manual) wire on the fenderwell got hot and burnt off the insulation.

Kind of odd and I don't know if related to your problem but a friend of mine told me he has a 68 camaro with perfomance engine and headers. After he runs it a while it will not start up and he traces it to the starter being overheated by the headers.

Could you explain further "fuse block/circuit breaker/junction block". None of these ring a bell for me. The starter solenoid (relay) is mounted to the right of the radiator and the positive battery cable is attached to it. Also attached will be the cable going to the starter, along with two smaller wires.

This "junction box" is bolted on the inner wheel well right behind the battery toward the firewall. Its a Bakelite fixture with a 1/4" electrical connection on the battery side and a 1/8 electrical connection on the firewall side. Then there is a wire that runs between the two electrical connections (a fuse wire?). I'm going to have to find another one cause the Bakelite crumbled when I tried to remove it. Any help you could give me as to what this is and how to get another would be appreciated.

I believe what you are seeing is a fusable link; installed there to burn in two before major damage is caused by an electrical overload. I think it is shown in Fig.6 page 22-10 (1966 shop manual) and only identified as "FUSE ASSY". [Shown between ignition switch and 60-AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER] Also mentioned in part 15-5 under "circuit protection" (second from bottom of chart.)

I agree Harley. Any idea where I can get another "fuse assy" the one on the car fell apart when I took it out.
