292 pre-oiling

My 55 bird 292 motor has been idle for a few years since a top end rebuild.
I wish to start it & am enquiring as to whether I can turn the oil pump by the dist. shaft ( similar to a 302) to build up oil pressure.If so what fits the shaft & is it turned clockwise or anti clockwise ?

I would shoot a little oil down through the spark plugs to get oil into the cylinders ( not alot) and crank it with the coil wire out.
