1986 Thunderbird Elan

Ok, I hope I am in the correct area. I am looking for some help. I am contemplating buying a 1986 Ford Thunderbird Elan. Not sure the engine size as I have not seen it yet. I will be seeing it tonight. The owner has told me over the phone that the car has 105000 miles on it, the over drive does not work and there is some play in the steering. What I want to know is what do I need to look for on this car to make sure it is not completely messed up and what types of issues are there on these cars that I need to be aware of. If I buy it, the price is pretty cheap and I am just wanting a get around town car but I don't want to spend tons and tons of money on it just for repairs. Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks
