    Back up lights ?

You could try adjusting the tab on the shaft at the bottom of the steering-column that moves your neutral safety switch - worked for my '66. And the not-staying-in-Park thing? I ended up CAREFULLY grinding a notch deeper in the Park bit of the detent AND had a buddy build-up the worn part of...

    Vanity Plate?

Here in New Zealand we can only get a maximum of six numbers/letter on our vanity plates, however so does Oregon. I plan to get a set of NZ plates made that have the same layout as the Oregon ones and then I can leave the Oregon ones in place!!!

    Starting problems

Don't know about '65 birds but on a '66 the relay on the firewall is for the power windows, nothing to do with the neutral safety switch which is at the lower end of the steering column down near the the brake-pedal. BUT I still doubt that's your problem, seems to be more than just that, I'd...

    Starting problems

You mentioned that your 'bird would start 'in any gear' - it might pay you to check your start inhibitor switch (or whatever you call it). Mine had been by-passed by the previous (Mexican?) owner and I could start my 'bird in any gear.

Got my 'bird on the road..

Happy as a pig in **** - got my '66 all road legal here in New Zealand - only 12,000 from Salem, Oregon where I bought it!!!. As you all have seen it took a bit of getting there but now I'm rapt and can't wait to go cruising. (A shame it's fall and heading to winter over here.)

    Trunk Seal

It was just because it was aged and there was a little rust starting in places, I have placed the seal in the 'trough' and placed weights on the trunk-lid to 'flatten' the seal a little before I glue it. I had already replaced the cowl drain hoses (and the patch of rust in the trunk floor!)...

    Trunk Seal

Thanks Dan, yeah, I dug out all the old rubber, wire-brushed and de-rusted the channel and painted it with a rust-kill compound. I have the new rubber in place but not yet glued - are the ends meant to be by the trunk latch or just below the rear window or...?

    Trunk Seal

I bought a new trunk seal (the one that goes right around the trunk opening) (1) Is it meant to be glued in position? (2) How do you cope with the corners, it tends to 'roll' upwards out of the slot. (3) It seems to be quite a bit thicker than the old seal - the deck lid is hard to push shut...

    Starting problems

I have had the same problem on my 'bird (and other older Fords) at times. It seems to be when I do not have a fully charged battery, the rest of the time it is OK.

    Ballast Resistor Location

I think you'll find the relay on the firwall (for the power windows0 is 'disarmed' while you twist the key to activate the starter and crank the motor. Which means while you're cranking the motor over you would have no power to the ignition if you were running it off the power window relay.

    Detent plate removal

Well, got the detent plate out of my '66 column, I can see straight away where it can be improved by putting in a notch where neutral is and notching the reverse position so that the shift lever cannot pull the transmission from reverse into neutral or worse, into drive!!!! How to: (1) Remove...

    Sounds great!...for a few seconds

I think it's about time you had somebody with engine experience standing beside you, the problem sounds like a 'basic' fault. At times a second fresh set of eyes will pick up a fault or problem that you have overlooked despite your best efforts. Been there - done that!!:smilelol Keep at it guy!!

    Seat Belt warning lightand stuff....

Thanks boaterbob, now back from short vacation and back into the '66 so will try the above, I'm in the middle of fitting a "Hi-stop" extra stop light in the centre of the rear window. (ANOTHER NZ requirement). I've just run the wire for it through beside the rear arm-rest and I'm going to hook...

    Rear Axle tag

Once again thanks, you guys are great when it comes to knowing stuff!!

    Rear Axle tag

Language barrier! Here in NZ that kind of diff. is known as Limited-Slip = LS As opposed to non-limited-slip. And the NL4 thing?

    Rear Axle tag

Thanks guys, I know SOMEBODY would come through on this site!!! The W CD - J pans out just like boaterbob said. (I'm guessing it's all still untouched in there) I noticed on the above site in the column on the axles that there is a column with 'N' or 'NL' in it, what does that signify???

    Rear Axle tag
