almost nothing will fit on the front of a 65 or aq 66 tbird
the front calipers are HUGE kelsey hayes made em
they stop great but nothing in the rim world fits over
them I have tried there is always a rubbing issue and I am
not one to go to a spacer bigger than 5/16 I just don't feel
safe the way I drive so I have tried mustang rims, lincoln rims
stock stamped the spare off my ranger, and they all rub
different offsets even with the spacer they rub

if money is no object you can have a custom set whipped up
that will fit like perfect

You might give this a try, I've heard the Nissan Murano spare tire/wheels is a large diameter/ narrow aluminum wheel that really saves space in the trunk (and looks good too) and is still big enough to fit with big disc brakes. Space is at a premium in my 55 T-bird and this combo will supposedly fit my app. (11" Granada spindles/disc) so I'll be trying it soon and I'll try to post back how it works in my situation.

Well I guess I should have looked when this was first posted ..... anyway, maybe it'll help out others looking for a space saving good looking temporary spare

Why not just go on E-bay and look for a steel wheel? i think that a mercury wheel of the same year will fit.

John Draxler from T-Bird ranch should have one if all you just need is a spare.

BTW there are plenty of aftermarket wheels that will fit over the KH DB's

I converted my '61 front drums to '65 KH DB's and these wheels clear with no problem!

John, I've got a stock 15" steel wheel that I could use now but the reason I was saying the Murano wheel might be a good choice for a spare is because it's suppposed to be thinner than the stock wheel and the '55 t-bird trunk is very shallow and the spare lies flat in the middle of the floor. I still haven't tried it yet and it might not really be that much of a space saver, but I was just thinking out loud that if I could find one at a wrecking yard it might be a viable option for weight and thickness compared to stock.

Ah..I see! I'm actually also looking for a cheap spare to clear the calipers so I may look into this. Thanks!!!

I was wondering the same thing, I just picked up a 66 this past summer and played the game of "will this fit over these huge calipers" and came up with the same answer as you, I tried crown vic turbine wheels, and whatever else in my pile of parts i could find. I found a set of 5 slot mags awhile back and almost seemed to fit the car, but the stud were to short to get them centered properly on the studs (unilug rims). Might be an idea in the future. Got some really vintage chorme steelies on it, they fit good and suit the car, so if I can figure out who made them I'll iet u know.
