This is the slowest forum I have seen but there are very few Galmour bird forums at all. Im not a Ford guy but looking at a 69. Supposedly every option works )PW,PS, PB, Power lgihts, origna Ac works and has been converted, original 429 just rebuilt 4000 miles ago, original C4, and paint was alaos resprayed 4000 miles ago. What would you pay for this. Pics attached

Welcome fellow Glamour-gal potential owner!

As to the first part of you post, I agree.:agree Not a lot of motion on the Glamour-bird forums. As to the second part of your post; the best advise I can give you is find out what comparable birds are going for in the "autotradreonline.com", "Cars.com" type places. My veiw of a car is "it's always worth what you paid for it". sounds overly simple I know. If it is what you want the price will be right.

I looked for my 67, 2 door, hard top for 15 years off and on. In that time I saw examples I wanted but could not afford and examples I could buy but didn't want. I finally found a 67 that was not a bondo babe from collision,:smash was all together(no interior missing, etc. ), everything worked, and most importantly, NO RUST....EVER! She just needs the TLC to the body and paint now, the power train is all done. I paid $7,000.00 and flew 1,000 miles to drive her home, I've never looked back.:driving

It's all in what you want and what you want to do with her. By the way, your pic's didn't come through or my work computer blocks them.

Good luck and let us know what you do.:patriot

Yes, I wish there was a better forum to bounce ideas around, but maybe it will grow. As for value, I would think if it is in that good of shape and all works well, it may be worth 10 grand. There is not a lot of them out there to compare prices. I would think that the 4 door (suicide door) birds would be more collectable, because that is one unique feature that folks remember them for, but really I think the 2 door models look better. As a guide, I paid $4000 for my '69 about 18 years ago. It was a 24k mi car, with only surface rust by the lower front fender trim. It had been sitting a few years (indoor). A fun car to drive, but I like everything to work and with all of the electronics, I won't really have time to devote to solving all the issues until I retire. I also agree that if you intend to keep it for yourself, it's worth whatever you can afford get it for. As for resale, I don't feel like there is a huge market for them right now, but what do others think?:ghug

For some reason the other 3 pics I have will not come thorugh here and I keep getting a "Fatal error"Message . I will try again on the front pic, engine compartment pic and the one interior pic.

To keep my two buddies on here that replied to this post informed...let me first say thank you. I appretiate you taking the time to respond. I attempted to join the Yahoo Groups Glamor Bird forum for another sourse to learn. What a PITA this was over a week ago I attempted to join. The owner of the group has not taken the time to approve my membership among the group, and time is of the essence for me to learn and inform myself as much as possible befor eI go to look at this car and potentially purchase it.

I am planning to take a trip to see this car the Tuesday or Thursday after Christmas to take a look at it. Gonna bring a floor jack to get under the car. I am looking for body work, welding marks, etc and rust of course. Again Im not familiar with these cars. Can anyone tell me on these cars where they may be more prone to rust? Do the windshields and rear windows channels rust out and leak frequently like on manyu GM cars? I am also waiting for the owner to either fax or email me the receipts for the motor rebuild and the paint he all had done just 10 months (4000 mi) ago.

This is where I am at with the car right now...trying to educate mysefl as much as possible about this car to aid me in making an informed purchase and not rush into it. Any suggestions are welcomed and appretiated.

Oh and to answer the question as to what I plan to do with the car. Drive it. This is gonna be my daily driver actually. If the body and paint are truely rust free....and if the drive train is solid...My plans are to get the seats recovered, look into changing the rear end gaers for something in the 3.20:1 ration and or change to a rear that can run a better ratio for around town that the typical 2.80 rear. Anyone on here know if gears are available for these rear which I think are 9 3/4" rear ends?

Areas of rust to look at, I've heard that the frame is one area, around the suspension for the rear. Also witha vinyl top, around the rear window could be a problem. As I already mentioned, mine is rusted at the bottom of front fenders due to the trim holding moisture. Can't tell you anything about the diff, but if it is a 9", should be easy enough to swap out the guts. The pics look as if it is a decent driver and with easy access to the back seat!:driving
:cheers

I looked at the car early this morning gentlemen. Drove 5.5 hours to see this car as described by the owner in his ad and on the phone as "69 t bird landau. senior owned and cared for. All power options and all work including headlights, turn signals etc. motor has 4000 miles on complete rebuild and new paint 10 months ago. all documentation included" when I spoke to the amek ont he phone I specifially asked is there any rust at all you can see, any paint bubbling and he replied no this car is perfect and needs nothing.

Reality: none of the windowns worked and most of the window switches were missing, power seat did not work, AC compressor didnt even engage, wrinkle in the hood, driver rear door would not close, left cornering light didnt work, seat of interior look like they were recovered by a complete novice, carpet is aftermarket astro turf green as were the seats compared to the dark olive door panels, and what pissed me off most was the 4 blatant spots of bubbling rust under the paint you coule see from 20 feet away!"

I looked at another car while I was up there that was a 1968 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight loaded 4 door that also was supposed to be a turn key driver ready to go. just as bad.

SO TO SUMARIZE: I drove to Atlanta last night which was a 6 hour drive, got a hotel room, ate a great breakfast, saw 2 pieces of shit, and drove home another 6 hours" hope the last 24 hours for you was better than mine was.

BUT, I must say thanks to all on here who replied and tried to offer some advice...much appretiated.

Don't lose faith, borther...

Scott,

Ya gotta look at it this way; you lost a day and some pocket change, but you eliminated two from the heard, only a thousand more to go.:box

Seriously, it took me many years and many miles to finally take the money out of my pocket. You have only just started. There arent many good examples left from a production run that ended fourtyone years ago so patience is going to be your new best friend. When you finally find that "just right at the right price" glamour-gal you will be so pleased with it and yourself for waiting to find that diamond in the ruff that you will look back on this expierence and the many to come as a very productive use of your life (and I think you get it all back at the end...think mind you, not sure.).

I annoyed the former owner of "Blackbird" so much with constant questions on the phone and so many pictures (61 to be exact) of his car before I agreed to go get it that I'm suprised he sold it to me.:banghead I think he did just to get rid of me. People selling a car see it as they wanted it to always be, as it was when they got it, not for what time and life have done to it. So don't be too hard on them.

Your bird is waiting for you...out there...somewhere, you'll find it, just don't give up faith.:yesnod

Good luck,:patriot

Just now read all the posts here .. I just purchased in July 2011 my dream machine .. it is perfect in every aspect ..a '67 Tudor coupe Landau and had 13,904 miles when I bought it .. it now has 14,262 .... it was in a private collection for nearly three decades sitting in a climate controlled warehouse on a lift ... I have gone through it for all the normal maintenance issues .. most from non use .. and I paid an arm and a leg for it, but searched for nearly two yrs. to find it .. if anyone wants to know about it I will be glad to discuss... I hope Scott that u found urself one u love ... thaanx Gemman

dont quit!

Agreed, it takes time. Mine isnt as pristine as gemman's bird, but its still the princess of the bunch. Mine is a 68, pretty soild, needs work, but its a runner. It was stored for over 20 years, the gentleman was planning on restoring it, kept moving it from place to place till he finally gave up. I found it on C-list, and blew up his phone for a month till he picked up, and finally he said it was sold, so I gave up. A week later he calls me back, and the car hadnt sold, he just said it to get rid of me ( didnt relize it was me the whole time :). anyways I got at 4 am to look at the car the next day, before anybody else called or got it and looked at it. I fell for it soon as I pulled off the car cover, and went over it for the next 2 hours. Next daay I went down there and bought it home. I researched for hours and checked out everything I possibly could, found what worked and what it was gonna cost to fix. not everything works, but its still nice. Its a work in progress, when time and money allow. I've only but 29 miles on it since I got it, but it never fails to put me in a good mood. Its got a little mud in it, but virtally unmolested. Black, vinyl top, brogham package (leather/vinyl seats) power windows manul locks,429, and am radio. Hope to never see it leave :)

Moral of the story: dont give up, dont quit, and dont stop!
