VIN #'s AND PRICING

Hey everyone, I just bought a 66 convertible with a 428 and want to find out more about the history of this bird. If anyone could help me with some info. on how to find out what my VIN number means in detail, I would very much appreciate it. If anyone knows how rare the convertible with 428's are, please let me know. The car is in good condition and needs some body work from rust on the lower body. The engine has 85,000 original miles and runs great. The interior is in OK condition but all gauges work and it has factory A/C. The seller informed me that this is one of few 428 convertibles left. Could anyone give me an estimate of how much this car would go for as it is and an estimate on how much it would cost to restore the interior and the body work. Also if anyone knows how much this car would go for fully restored, I would very much appreciate it. This is a lot to ask for but I know there's gotta be someone out there that can help.

Looks like you got a real gem....First, I'm not sure how rare a 428 convertible is but some of the links below may lead you. The shop manual has a vin# decoder. I don't have it handy but I'll tell you what I know. You can probably figure it out using the links below. What I know is the 6Y means 1966, assembled in Wixom, MI (all were in 1966) then a 2 digit body code, then engine code (428 was Q), then a 6 digit "serial number". The data plate on the door tells even more. Post again if you need more info.

hey there,
like everyone says here. you will never get what you put into it as far a money is concerened. restoring the car is a labor of love and enthusiasm. i have a 64 convertible and have invested 10k already and it would probably sell for 8k. i prefer to drive it on beautifull sunny days and cruise with a smile. i am never getting my money back but i am getting my money's worth. . . and then some.

A convertable is always a good investment--get a shop manual and have fun.A good one goes for something like ten grand more than a hard top.

Thanks for your replies and websites. I did find out that there were just over 5,000 convertibles made in 66'. This should bring more rarity to the car plus it has most or all of the available options at the time. It also has the 428 'Q' engine which should bring more value. If anyone knows more about the car, I'm trying to find out as much about it as i can.
