I had the Cruisomatic on my 61 rebuilt by a guy that's reportedly a master at doing so. He said he had problems but pulled it, tinkered with it and reinstalled it several times trying to get everything right. In the end he told me it was shifting just fine. I've never driven or been in another one of these cars so I'm not sure how they shift. So, I put it in D1 - it shifts quickly from 1 to 2, then again at about 20 mph, although that shift doesn't really change the sound of the engine much - like the gears are really close to each other or it doesn't really get to 3. If I stomp the gas, the shifts are more spread out and with perhaps a little more change in engine tone. Once in "third", if I pull it down into low gear I only feel one shift into 1 - and maybe that's right. On the freeway, the rpms are pretty high, but not screaming. Just curious if this sounds right to any of you. I've been other early 60s cars - GM principally - and there's a definite change in tone from 2 to 3.

no problem. If you want to spread the shift, Screw in the adjustment screw in the modulator 1/2 a turn at a time to spread shift points.

Thanks Bill - I got ahold of a service manual and read it's supposed to shift at 8mph and again at 18. That's about what it does.
