My recently purchased 65 has a Custom Autosound "USA" stereo, but there is awful hum/whistle that varies with the RPM. Once the car is at cruising speed, the noise isn't as noticeable. The noise is there for both the radio and tape player so I think the problem is "electrical" rather than antenna interference.

Do these symptoms match any problem (e.g. non-resistor ignition wires/plugs, faulty ground, missing/bad inline filter, etc.)?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

A great resource for you would be Gary Tayman at Tayman Electrical. Gary is a Tbird fanatic whose car stereo shop specializes in Custom Autosound products and all sound systems for classic cars. His shop can also take an original Tbird AM radio and upgrade it into a modern digital AM/FM/CD system while maintaining its stock appearance. This guy knows his stuff and could be a big help to you. His website is www.taymanelectrical.com. Good luck.

Yoda if the plug wires are not a silicone surppresion type then that would cause the hum. I have had that happen with some solid core "race" wires on another car.
