New Bird, what should i do?

Hey, I just picked up an 89 T-Bird with the 3.8L V-6 and only 73,000 original miles. My question is, are there many options for T-Birds with the V-6? I have been an old mustang guy for awhile and am just getting into the birds.
Also, how good are the tranny's? Mine seems to shift a little hard... Is that because it's just old? or do they have a tendancy to go out?
