In redoing a 57 bird using all white interior
would the bottom of the dash match the dash pad exactly in the same shade of white, or is the dash pad color match the upolstery shade of white, and which shade of white should the steering wheel be as well

I am finding that they are what appears to be two different shades of white

It's all Colonial White. Color matching becomes a rather moot point because different glosses and textures come into play.
The dash pad is vinyl and is flat/semi-gloss. The steering wheel is gloss. The painted part of the dash is flat/semi-gloss with a fairly heavily textured finish. The painted part is what gives most folks heartburn. Your Thunderbird parts suppliers furnish different materials for the dash bottom. Follow their specific directions to the letter.

I have a 56 t-bird that is colonial white. The body has had one if not more coats of paint over the years by previous owners. However, the engine compartment is now a dull black. Is this correct or should the engine compartment also be colonial white?

Jim793,

We probably should start another thread for engine compartment colors. This thread was for interior colors. Aw heck, I'll start an engine compartment thread to answer your question. Who knows; it might grow with other engine compartment color concerns.
