I pulled the steering column to get the dash out. I disconnected all the wiring and gauges from the dash so I can get it recovered. I reinstalled the steering column so I can steer. Now I'm trying to figure out how to start the engine so I can drive it to the body shop.
I've taped up every loose connection to prevent sparking (though I have a fire extinguisher handy just in case). I haven't touched the distributor, generator, or voltage regulator.
I thought I could "just" rewire everything needed to start the car from the ignition switch. Best I can tell that would include:
Battery, ignition switch, starter relay, neutral switch, coil.

Is there anything else that needs to be reconnected?
Can I just let the ignition switch dangle, or does it need to be grounded to the body?

As a last resort I can get a tow truck, but the body guy really really would like it running. Go figure.

I'm open to any other suggestions
Thanks in advance for advice. I really don't want to use the extinguisher!

Studied a diagram and I think you are ok. Make sure the battery is charged however as I don't think the generator will fire off without the gen light being hooked up. If the battery is healthy no charge shouldn't be a problem on a short drive. The switch should not need to be grounded.
