Hoses on Heater/AC fan

On Flairbirds with air, the heater fan sticks through the firewall and there are two stubs, one on each side that look like they should have hoses attached. There is also 1 stub, of the same size, on the firewall.
I assume these are for directing cooling air to the fan motor, but I can find no info on them.
Does anyone have details, and possibly a photo?

There are hoses that should be connected to the fan motor as you described. I was able to get replacements from Pat Wilson's in NJ.

hoses on the blower motor??

On my 65, both hoses are missing. What is the purpose for the hoses? And does it hurt anything if they are not installed?

They are probably missing on most of the birds out on the road. The purpose of the hoses is to pull cooling air to the fan motor from inside the cabin instead of the engine compartment to prevent moisture and contaminants from damaging the fan.

Thanks! - I'll add an upside down "L" shaped hose on the motor just to help keep water out.

Check Walt's photos in the post back a few in this thread. They show the setup beautifully. The hoses are available from most suppliers for about $7 each.

heater issues

Thanks. I looked at the photos and will call some of the suppliers tomorrow. I do have another issue. The previous owner stuck a residential plumbing valve in the hose, rather than fix the probably non functional heater valve. I have a new vacuum operated one, but I'm puzzled as to which end of the valve goes on the supply line. The valve is roughly "L" shaped.

The round, saucer-shaped end is the diaphragm for the vacuum. It goes on top. The hose from the engine goes to the fitting coming out on a right angle on the side below the diaphragm and the hose to the heater core goes on the bottom fitting that points down. Vacuum applied to the small fitting above the diaphragm will open the valve, allowing hot water to the core.

Thanks, I'll put that in next weekend along with some new water lines. The heater box is all repaired with new gaskets and foam, and the vacuum relays all work. I've ordered a new fresh air duct and the fan motor cooling tube. As soon as I get all of the vacuum lines sorted out and hooked back up, I can put the heater box back in and button things up.
