Heat Riser

On my '55 the heat riser is rusted shut (as Iam sure many are). My question; Is there a need for the heat riser, or can it be replaced with the spacer available from the suppliers without harm?

So much depends upon when, where, and how the car is used. Generally speaking, if it is above 50 degrees and the engine is run continuously for 30 minutes or more, the heat riser can probably be omitted. If you have had to replace your left muffler more frequently than the right side muffler, that may be an indication that you probably need the heat riser for the way you use the car.

Thanks for the reply. The car is driven only when the sun is shining in Michigan and the temp is at least 50 degrees (which sometimes is a challenge this time of year) I do drive it 20-30 miles when I can get it out so I will probably put a heat riser in it as that was the way it was built.

I eliminated my riser and car starts and runs just fine without it - think if you use it in extreme cold may make a difference

I never run my "T" Bird in very cold weather so maybe its best to eliminate it and not have the concern that it will "sieze" shut again.
