thanks boaterbob. Long time I don't pester. Hope all is well down your end.
Only supplier I found was the Bird Nest. All others only had the gasket to body one. It helped to know it was a giant o-ring. Thought it was a standard gasket this whole time.

I appreciate it!

Yes. I bought the car from my cousin and he had replaced the tank and Im pretty sure he didnt replace that part. Let me know if when you find it. I've been just filling up half way and driving like that.

While on the subject

I figured I'd better ask. since I'm about to do this job.

Is there any tricks to getting the filler neck out? I made the tool shown in the shop manual and it looks like it just pulles out being held in by the o-ring in a groove.

So using the tool I just pull and give it a little twisting motion?

Thanks Harley,
Is it really necessary to pull the filler neck out if I'm dropping the tank? Looking at it from under the car it looks like the tank would drop out and away from the filler tube. How "Stuck" will the original o-ring be?

There is a small cover inside the trunk, bolted to the shelf part of the trunk, that goes over the filler tube.
I don't think you can drop the tank without removing the filler tube first, and you have to remove this cover before you can remove the filler tube.
When I replaced my "O" ring last year, the filler tube came out easy without using any special tool to turn it.
I think that was because the PO replaced the fuel tank with a new one.
Problem was, he forgot to install that "O" ring.
Bob.

Thank you

Should go smooth. I don't see anything too difficult about it. Just making sure I had all the angles covered.

Well that was easy

Thank you for all of your input.
Came out easier then the book said. The manual says something about removing the top of the shocks. Topped it off and no leaks. New tank came with sending unit ring and the o-ring. $159+ Made in Canada. The only part I had to use from the old tank was the vent tube.

Thanks again.
