Alternator conversion

Looking to convert a generator to an alternator on a 62

I know you could put that single wire GM one in pretty easily by making a couple brackets but I don't really want a GM anything in there (even though I realize that GM doesn't make the alternator.......still based on principle).

I know you could use the 64-66 alternator with regulator and run all new wiring but I think I would rather go with something internally regulated (if possible)as I just cleaned up all the wiring and inner fenders

The last method I have heard of is using a newer generation alternator off a Taurus, modifying the harness, changing drive pulley from serp. belt to V groove and it is internally regulated. Has anyone done this conversion?

Not sure the best route to take here, was wondering what some of you did?

Just figured I would update that post. I decided to go with the newer 3rd generation 130 amp internally regulated alternator off of a 1996 Mustang. I was able to remove my regulator and all required wiring which cleaned up the inner fenders real nice. I put a water pump on off of a 64 as it has an extra threaded hole which helped with the mounting. With the use of a couple spacers and a fabricated lower bracket out of 1/4" plate, it works awesome and more importantly it doesn't have that single wire GM alternator under the hood!

saw your "garage picture" on forum. lucky you...at the beach...(we got no beach here in god's country) so having been here (cookeville,tn ) as a transplant from dana point beach calif. (as an old reference spot) , the wife and I visited dana point as we could break away from earning the morgtage needed to exist in calif. in 2006... seeing your whip is a refreshing moment for me ...you got it all and now the needed amperage to do more on the road and at events. good job.!
