Thanks for the "avoid" advice. If not Thunderbird HQ, then what shop/store do you recommend?

    1966 landau wiring question

Good info in this thread. My gauge and low light do not work either. I plugged a known good unit to the sending unit harness and the gauge still didn't budge. Looks like I need to check the trunk and the seat belt area connections next.

    seats

I dug through the book a bit more. If you find your car's VIN from the body tag on the driver's door, you can figure what kind of seats were in your car when it rolled off of the Wixom line. For example, the "trim" number on my 65 reads "55" which means my car had seats with head rests (the...

    seats

I flipped through the Tbird Restoration Guide and didn't see anything specific for differences. That's not to say there aren't, I just didn't see anything in the book.

Working on the windows on my 65 (pics)

Now for the beezutch of a problem: working on the power windows... One piece of background: the driver's window worked when I first got the car last year. It would come up and down slowly but worked. It randomly stopped working earlier this year. I checked the regulator motor and it moves up...

Working on the windows on my 65 (pics)

My parents came to visit and Dad and I did some work on both of these problems: wing window and power windows. As described in this thread from Bondobird, the wing window comes out as one unit after 4 bolts are removed. It takes some wiggling and rotating to get it past all of the window...

    Cracked dash on my 65

Here are a couple of ideas someone on one of the Mustang Forums through out for dash repair: Just Dashes and an eBay auction: Dash pad from eBay The Just Dashes place looks like a good way to get it restored, though I'm sure it's expensive. If I go this route, I'll send them my old dash when...

    Cracked dash on my 65

The padded dash in my 65 Tbird is cracked in two places running from the defrost vent towards the cabin. I was curious if it is possible to have one of these refurbished to look stock or if the only option was to replace it with a decent used one. Do any of the aftermarket companies sell new...

    Screws for Nose piece

Great... Fastenal was going to be my suggestion as I planned to use them for the hard to find hardware during the restoration of my 65. Strange that they can't match the pieces and not a good omen for my way forward...

New fitting weeps at power steering gear box on my 65 (pic)

Problem fixed! I bought a set of standard flare nut wrenches. For the record, the size on the line at the gear box is 5/8" and the one at the firewall going into the wiper motor is 11/16". I cleaned the gear box opening with brake parts cleaner and a pipe brush. Tightened the fitting at the...

My 65 at idle (guess what my next project will be...)

Below is a link to a 5+meg video of my 65 at idle: 2011-07-14_19-36-49_93.mp4 video by mkoebra95 - Photobucket I think the driver's side exhaust manifold to h-pipe donut gasket has blown out. I bought one and will be replacing the old one in the near future. Car sounds mean, but leaving it...

New fitting weeps at power steering gear box on my 65 (pic)

I agree about the teflon tape prolly not being the solution though I thank you Cdhowell for the response. The weep is coming from around the center where the line comes through the nut. I have been using an adjustable wrench so I guess it wouldn't hurt to buy a flare nut wrench big enough to...

Working on the windows on my 65 (pics)

Thanks for the suggestions Bondobird. I've checked the fuse once, but I'll look at it again and replace it outright. As for the wing, it looks like the whole thing comes out just as you described. I will do that and replace the regulator once I get some time when there are no afternoon rain...

New fitting weeps at power steering gear box on my 65 (pic)

So I thought I'd tackle one of my projects that I ASSuMEd would be easy: putting the new line from the power steering gear box to the wiper motor. I keep reminding myself what it means to ASSuME. As you can see from this picture: the reporduced line that TbirdHQ sold me is pretty close to...

    UPS man ROCKS!

I just got a couple of boxes of goodies from the Thunderbird Headquarters via UPS. On the agenda to fix on my 65 this month: leaking PS unit to wiper motor line, sloppy shifter, fuel level and low light sending unit, battery box and some weather stripping for around the side windows. I've seen...

Working on the windows on my 65 (pics)

Hey guys, I'm currently trying to get the power windows working as well as the driver's side vent window to crank on my 65. It's too dang hot to drive around here with NO a/c and only the passenger side vent window open... For the power windows: I know it could be basically one or both of...

restoring a 65 on discovery channels

Nifty segment. I loved watching them restore that old bird. Would have loved to see it bring in more $$. It goes to show that you should avoid mixing emotions with business decisions. There were a lot of cool old Tbird commercials played during the show. Here's the link to a couple of clips...

    New Flare Bird guy

Thanks for the info Harley. I appreciate it. The term "open" rear end or rear axle means it didn't come from the factory with an "Equa Lock" differential. On the rear axle code on the build tag the restoration guide lists 1, 4, 5, and 6 as open and A and D ones with Equa Lock. Mine does a...
