Widest tire, biggest wheel!

Hello All!

Can anyone tell me what the widest tire and biggest wheel I would be able to put under a '61 t-bird? Granted, I don't want to go 20" spinners or anything. I just want to hotrod the car as I have had roadster wire wheels and I want to change the look of the car. I am thinking 17" all around and am hoping I can get 245's front and rear without rubbing issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

John

Have you tried looking at Bridgestone tires?

Wider in the back

I am wanting to stay stock looking but have a wider tire and rim in the rear. Whats the widest 16 in I can put on the back of a 64 Bird?

Nova -- What did you end up going with? Any issues so far? I also have a '61 Bird and would like to do the same kind of thing.

225/50/17 BFG G-Force Sports on a set of Coys C5 17 x 8 wheels.

The car has also been lowered front and back. No rubbing issues at all.

Thanks. Say, one more question: Does your Bird have any modifications that would affect offset (brake upgrades, etc.)? Cheers!

I upgraded the front brakes with Kelsey-Hayes Disc brakes from a '65 'Bird. I'm not sure if the DB's pushed out or in the track width but I don't think it moved at all. The wheels have a 4.5" backspace.
