Thinking of buying a bird

Guys, I am newb here but I wondered what you thought about this 1996 Thunderbird LX 4.6L. Its got 75,000 miles and they said it was in good shape. I want a 4.6L V8, but I don't want to pay the high insurance for the Mustang or drive the Crown Vic boats. I figured that this would be a car to look at. I also have a set of rims/tires from a GEN2 Taurus SHO that I used on my Sable that would fit.

How are the transmisison on these? The Taurus ones sucked so I am hoping for better ones on the Tbirds. Are they the same as the Mustangs? I am not worried about the 4.6L, the transmissions on these cars scare me.

They want $5500 for it, but of course I will talk them down.
Let me know!

I paid 5 even for a 97 4.6V8 w/ 87000 on it and it has 125000 now and its still the best car Ive ever owned. Also, I have never had a single transmission problem.
I say go for it.

i was also wondering about thunderbirds, now i was looking at a 1997 with the 4.6 V8. Now i'm not use to most of the stuff on a thunderbird because i have been a huge Mustang fan but well i can't find a good one that is in good condition but i have found tons of thunerbirds all newer ones for a good price that are in good shape. Now the 4.6 is the same motor they have in the mustangs right, i see that they make a little more power.

There are two things i wanted to know about thunderbirds, 1 being how is the performance for the 4.6. Such as performance parts, are they the same as the mustang 4.6 and also what type of cars have you beaten, I only ask that because i don't want to have a boat that doesn't atleast have some power. These cars look like boats but a friend of mine has one (V6) and its really not that big my parents concorde is wider and just as long. Now i wanted to know what everyone pays for insurance on there thunerbird(that being if anyone wants to share what they pay because i know most won't want to). I currently pay 1400 (1990 mustang 2.3, one ticket(REALLY BIG), and one accident)

i don't mean to hijack your thread by the way.
