Transmission issues!

95' 4.6L 120K miles....I was traveling @ 15-20 mph, the rpm's spiked to around 3K. After letting off the accelorator, the tranny caught again and then seconds later, the car felt and sounded as though I'd ran over consecutive pot holes. As I'm pulling off the road, the "over drive" light on the dash board was blinking non stop. I drove the car home without any more tranny issues but the OD light continued its blinking.

This morning, the OD light was no longer blinking....and w/ one trip around the subdivision, I didn't encounter any tranny slippage.

5 days prior, all fluid levels checked out OK. This morning, the tranny fluid level was low but i found no evidence of any tranny fluid leakage anywhere on the driveway.

I've read about a digital component which impacts tranny control in mid 95 models. Is it possible this could be my issue? Is it something greater or could it simply be a fluid leak?

She's run brilliantly until now and I'm worried about her health!

I am greatful for any assisstance in this matter.

If your O/D light was flashing then the computer should have stored a code. Take it to a shop that can scan it. I'd say that would be a good first step.

Try a dealer or transmission shop. I haven't had too much luck dealing with chain stores like Autozone.

my 95 bird (4.6) has a massive trans leak, I have spoken with a few people and my brother done some checking and found out that 94-95 tbird/cougar had the most problems with the transmissions going out because of the pump, and starts blowing seals, my brother got a price of a re-man transmission from Jasper for $1500 with the guts of the trans re-designed, that is most likely the route that I will go.
