got an 8.8 irs can i use trac-loc unit from solid axle?
i just picked up a 8.8 irs setup out of a 92 xr7 w/ a v8. it is an open rear end [non-posi]. i have a 8.8 traction-loc unit out of a 97 cobra. can i use this unit in the IRS carrier?
ive been told yes and no. ive heard that the solid axle center sections do not have provisons for the IRS 'c' clips. can this unit be modified to work if not? i have the 8.8 non traction-loc center section, are the parts swapable? i plan on running a 4.30 ratio gear, so im thinking i will have to machine the center pin flat on one side too. just to let you know, im putting this carrier into a merkur xr4ti. it is 2600 lbs, and the stock rears are junk, ive gone through 2 already. this past summer i was @330hp to the wheels and with the new motor i should be @500hp with any luck, all out of a 2.3L with a very large turbo. thanks for any info, pete
