Post rpms over reving??

hi everyone. i'm having a problem with my 94 t-bird. sometimes during driving, the needle on the rpm's start shooting up, and the car starts slowing down. could this be a tranny problem or perhaps the catalytic convertor???....any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi from Californina. Anyway, I have a 1994 TBird w/ a 281 ci engine and this problem started on my car at about 25K. I had an idea that it was the power control module (PCM) and had the dealership inspect it under warranty. This would cause the car to rev up to 2000 at a stop light causing the car to try to push through a fully engaged brake. As soon as it started, it would stop and run normal. Of course the dealership said nothing could be found on the OBD II or diagnostics. Well eventually, the PCM failed completely and a the bit for opening a fuel injector was stuck at full open. Taking this back to the dealership was annoying, since it was the problem that I felt it was all along. Be careful and have the PCM changed before this happens to you while you are driving. A wide open fuel injector with an active spark is not a good combination for your engine, your car or your life....

Good luck.

Is it that you get a loss of for or a surge? If it slows down I would think that you are getting a loss, correct?
