This is a discussion on Exhaust Resonator within the Twilight Birds (MN12) [1994-1997] forums, part of the Thunderbird Model Years category; Has anyone here removed the exhaust resonator? The studs that hold mine on are rusting away...I have already replaced one ...

Exhaust Resonator
Has anyone here removed the exhaust resonator? The studs that hold mine on are rusting away...I have already replaced one of them with a makeshift nut/bolt assembly I had laying around. Just wondering if it'll make the car much louder...I would like to try to avoid a lot of interior resonance. Thanks for any reply.

Just to let everyone know...I removed the exhaust resonator and welded a piece of pipe in it's place. There was almost no difference in the sound, with the exception of an increase in that "glug-glug" V8 exhaust sound and a slightly deeper note at idle. On that note, if it's not falling off, don't take it off. It's a straight-through assembly, so there will be no increase in HP's or torque.
