Just a thought, but a cam sensor acting up is a possible answer. Have you recently disconnected the battery for any reason? If you have it can take more than 40 "restarts" to get the computer back to where it was when the car was running smoothly. Sorry for the late reply, I'm new to the board, and I must say I know more about SC's than I do N/A Birds, but if you're still having the problem, you can drop me an email at: [email protected] and I can do a little research on it, and possibly have a more specific answer for you.
Good luck,
-Jeff

I had pretty much the exact same problem with mine. I was not able to solve the problem myslef, so, I took it in for a diagnostic check. Found the ECT sensor was bad. Cost $24.00 for the part and the problem was solved. Since then, starts on the first crank, everytime. Better knock on some wood! Hope this helps!
