Red face bad, bad valve seats...

i love my t-bird to death, but whenever the motor is running at it's normal temp and after she's been idling for a while (sitting at a red light) she'll smoke from the rear. the smoke is white and that is the only time it will smoke. it's a 4.6 modular motor w/ 185k on it. everyone i talked to says it's my valve seats. please help. thanks

Yes, it is the valve guide seals. They can be replaced by a Shop for around $350, or you can do it yourself, if you are mechanically inclined. You can try the high mileage oils, which seem to help in some cases, or just live with it. It doesn't really hurt anything the way it is.

thanks. i'm having a couple of my friends help me rebuild the whole motor anyway. i think it should be done. it will also give me a chance to add some internal goodies as well and shove a few more horses under my hood. :D
