Engine discrepancy
Hello !
First of all I want to introduce myself. I am 29 years old and live in Cologne, Germany. My true name is Gorden. A couple of weeks ago I saw an 60´TBird. It takes only a few seconds to fall in love with this car. After searching the web for some info I got to Thunderbird-Ranch. The statistics on this side say something about the engines implemented. The 60´TBird was built with two engins. 352 and 430 cui. The cylinder capacity in the registration document (german) contains the info of 5,4 liters (and 240 HP) which accorded approximately to 332 cui. Is something wrong with my conversion or does an previous owner installed a different engine ?. Thanks for any kind of information and greets from Cologne. Gorden. P.S.: Excuse my awful english :) [ 11-03-2002: Message edited by: Prometheus ] |

Gordon,
Your English is great. I'd hate to have to communicate in German! The 352 should convert to 5.7 litres and develope 300hp. The 430 is a 7 litre and it makes 350hp. It sounds like you probably have the 352. Thats what I have in mine, but I just bought a 460 w/ a C6 transmission. My 352 is worn out. Have fun with the T-bird. Hello OldBird !
Thanks for your fast reply. I hope you´re right an I have the 352 indeed. I try to keep this car as original as I can but I have an apprehension about this engine. Can I solve this problem over the engines´ part number ? If yes where can I do so ? Regardless of the engine trouble there is still enough to do. Greets Gorden (Hoping to have an 60´ T-Bird soon) P.S.: Does anybody has a link to a german dealer to get TBird parts ? |

Could it be that this particular T-Bird was built for export and equipped with a 332? I would doubt that you tell the difference in the engines by looking.. Maybe the data plate would help solve this. DSO?

Hi Gorden
Can you post on this forum your complete vin number you will find it on the inside frame of the car when the drivers door is open. You may have the export 332 engine as a friend of mine has this 332 engine in his 58 T-Bird. Also iam locating parts dealers in Germany and Europe for you and will send them to you. But i must say that the parts dealers in America or great and as these cars were built there they will be your best help. Does your tbird have a steel sunroof? Kevin 60 Sunroof England!. |

Hello Gordon,
To answer your question on your 'Engine Descrepancy", Squarebirds (1958, 59, and 60,) sold overseas (not in the USA) had the 332 CID engine instead of the 352 CID. Get yourself a good book on the 1958 Thunderbird and one on Thunderbird history. There is a great deal more to know about these cars. Regards, Okie boy :) |
