Cleaning Old Paint
Difficulty in cleaning original paint on a 60 SB. It has been subject to the elements and a little tree sap for about 3 yrs. Paint is in good condition underneath it all. Any suggestions other than having a new skin.

Once tree sap dries , it almost take a stick of dynamite to get it off. Wal-Mart carries a small can of tree sap removal. It works a little bit. ( Depend how long the sap has dried ). Ask your auto paint supply store what they have. A body man might be able to wet sand and buff to get it off .

Wet 1500 - 2000 grit is OK for minor sap removal & oxidation. Forgot to mention for heavy and/or dried globs of sap : Kerosene will disolve tree sap and won't do any harm to auto paints. Wash car 1st to remove sand particles, then use sponge with Kerosene to dissolve sap . If sap has dried well, let Kerosene soak on sap for a couple of hours. Then wash with soap & water. While we're on the subject: Bird droppings will ruin all paints where they land in 2-3 days. Wash off droppings as soon as they're noticed.
