Engine colour

I just pulled my 390 out of my 65 and cleaning it up, new gaskets etc. All the specs I read say the engine block etc should be black...mine is gold. It is a lighter gold than the valve covers and air cleaner. It is a DIF engine, not Canadian, and it has not been out of the car before (to the best of my knowledge and observation. There is no black paint under the gold anywhere.

Any ideas? Did Ford ever paint a gold 390?

Thanks

Gt
