Cool Headlights (Headdarks?)

1991 issue Bird. Many miles. Headlights come & go. I know there was a recall relative to this on fog-light equipped Birds & Cougars. Mine has no fog-lights but same symptoms. I replaced headlight switch about 9 months ago. Stopped for awhile & has reoccurred. Recall stuff said replacement switch was "upgraded" & might be associated with "new" connector. Anybody had this experience? Suggestions? Thank you in advance for replies.

yeah I have heard that the problem was not only for fog-light equipped thunderbirds and cougars. Contact your local ford dearlership to see if the recall has been extended to all early MN12's. I doubt it has, but it is worth a try. By this time, your local parts store should be stocking the updated unit.

Goodluck! I know how much of a pain those lights can be...mine did it for years before the recall.

I had this problem with my Bird, Although I do have the fog lights. My problem was the ignition switch it just fell apart. To save you time in finding it, it is attached to the sterring column behind the little plastic dash extension. It has a couple screws and just plugs in. Very easy to replace.

I have a '93 and I just had that problem, Mine does have Fog lights, but I also replaced the headlight switch a while back, but It went bad again. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the switch again. Then the next day, I was switching from low to High beam, and they went out all together and smoke came out of the hi/low lever. I took it back and they replaced that (all under the recall) and haven't had any problems since.
