The New Birds (MN12) [1989-1993] These TBirds came with a new look and some new features but are still built with the same great quality that the first TBirds were made with. Talk about yours here. |
This is a discussion on Data Port Tuner Gadget within the The New Birds (MN12) [1989-1993] forums, part of the Thunderbird Model Years category; Okay I'll just admit it right off the bat, I don't have very much experience with Ford engines, so you'll ...

You won't be able to use the data port tuner on your bird-not available for the 89-93 Birds.
You'll have to have a chip buned for your Bird-best one around is www.fordchip.com

If I was reading that right it looked like the top of the line one was only 375 (plus s&h I?m sure). But that?s not bad at all for a custom chip. Thanks bud. Now you wouldn?t have maybe caught what your rw hp was before and after getting that chip would ya?

We just finished the install of the supercharged 331 in the 93 SC.
Prior to the new motor, that car was rated at 210HP, 315lb-ft. With the new motor, running 12psi, we hit 433HP @ 5400RPM, 478lb-ft @ 2800RPM. The torque between 2800-5500 only drops 22lb-ft. I'm really not too sure what any of my MN-12s ran before the modifications were done-never had them tuned by Fordchip before the mods-only after.

Damn, those are some pretty impressive numbers to be putting out. I bet you've had plenty of fun roasting rubber onto asphalt with that. Have you had to mod or replace the tranny and rear end to take the doubled hp and torque? Cause I?ve gotta say that after taking a look at that rear end, it doesn't look like the strongest thing ever slapped onto a Ford.

I haven't driven the car yet-those numbers were off the dyno with only a driver seat and minimum guages in place-the interior is being redone.
I'm using a Level Ten transmission with a 2400 stall TQ-Custom Driveshaft-Currie Enterprises 3.08:1 Torsen Differential and a set of custom CV halfshafts. This car has been extensively modified during its rebuild in the suspension and chassis areas, and I'm also running a Baer Claw brake system. When the car is finished, it will look as good as it runs.
