Question Adjusting Carburetors

Hey Everyone,
I need to adjust the air mixture valve on my carburetor, It’s a two barrel on a 351-w. (The carburetor is; model 2150 2-V). What’s the best way to adjust it? Are there any preset settings? The book doesn’t say, or at least the one I have! Thanks for any help.

i assume youre talking about the air fuel screws under the bowl, in front of the carb. If so, the best and most accurate way to set these is with a vaccuum gauge. Turn them in ward (Clockwise) until the engine begins to stumble (assuming the aren't plugged in the first place!) and while watching the vaccuum gauge, back it out until you reach the highest vaccuum reading you can get. The repeat for the other screw. this should put you very close to 14.7 (ideal)

Hey Gearworks,
Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I’ve been busy as heck working on my power steering.( I had a major leak and tried fixing it). I bought a kit for it and rebuilt it, $35. I must have done something wrong because It was awfully tight. So I opened it one more time to find the 2nd nut on the worm-shaft was a little tight and loosened it and slapped it together one more time. The Power part of the steering wasn’t working so I replaced the pump thinking that it might be bad $58, thank god it was. But it didn’t fix the problem. So I got a used on from the wrecking lot, for $60. The book said $175, but the guy working there new I was a regular, and changed the price. Slapped it together and it fixed the problem. I believe something was missing, because I do know it was worked on before. A friend who’s worked on fords for ever, came to my place and adjusted the carburetor, he said the way you stated was a very good way. But he adjusted it before I told him about your way. He said he did a good job and if he was off at all it wasn’t much! Thanks though.
