Exclamation ain't no 5oh

i was lookin around under the hood of my t-bird last night. kinda checkin out some things b4 the big swap goes down. and i thought that the valve cover on the driver's side looked a little closeer to the master cylinder than my friends 77 cougar (302). didnt pay any attention to it, though. i bought the car to house my 400M, not for what was already there.
well, i came across the engine tag on the valve cover, also. and i was like, "cool, i can still read it!" and it said 5.8!!! i couldve fallen right over!
so now i gota 351W w/FMX tranny, along with my excelent buy on the car.
i thought originally that i would jus sell the motor and tranny, cause 302's are a dime a dozen. but now i believe i will sit on this combo for a while! maybe it will power my next project..........

Thumbs up

$125 aint bad for a used tranny, if it has all its gears it is even better.

is it still in a car? can you test it b4 you buy it? does it have any kind of part warranty? alot of times a junkyard will give a 30 day warranty on trannies, but you have to do some stuff b4 you install it to meet the warranty requirements.

i dont think i am gonna sell mine just yet. i really havent decided what i am gonna do with the 351/FMX, and i would hate to split them, and then want to use it later on.

the guy at the junk yard said that it is a good tranny and $125 is a very good deal I dont think I will pass it up the tranny that I bought befor this one was a ford jatco off of a straight six it lasted for about 3 weeks before things started to go wrong he said that there is a 60 day waranty and if it isnt good I can bring it back and get another one or my money back.. also at this place there is a 78 cougar with a 351w I am thinking about buying it but I really want a thunderbird and I cant find one close to here I have found one by cofeyville Kansas that is a t-top 79 and it is just sitting at a body shop but I am not sure if it is for sale or not I am going to have a friend check on it for me so I will get back to you about it thanks Graham

Graham,

I know this is kind of late, but if you're still looking for an FMX transmission, I have one for sale. It has a brand new rebuild on it (zero miles). I bought it, as well as a 289 for my '78 Granada, but I never used them. If you're interested, let me know.
