Post headlight doors 1977 t-bird

I have a problem wiyh my headlight doors when start the car they close. When I shut the car off they close in about 5mins. The car has 27,000 miles and is in exec. cond all the vac. lines and the 4way and 3way bypass unit are in good cond. Could anyone give me some idea of what else I could check or if there is some way to check the other parts. Thanks Bruce

OK: When you start the car, they close. When you shut the car off, they close. Is this with the headlights on or off? What is the 4 way and 3 way bypass?

When the headlight switch is off.The bypass (not sure if I have correct terminolgy)4way is the one you use to open the headlight doors to change the light you turn it counter clock wise. 3way is close to the firewall one line goes to vac. tank, one to manifold, one to switch. Also switch opens and closes doors. Thanks a lot for the reply any info would help, Bruce

has any of the lines been monkey'd with?
kinda sounds to me that you have a crossed line somewhere, possibly on the headlight switch itself. As long as theres vacuum in the resovoir (Under the driver fender front.) the system should operate regardless of whether the engine is running or not. ill look thru my papers and try to locate my vacuum diagram and send you a copy, so you can check through your system.
:p
