Post spring dimensions

Hey,

Could someone help me out? I'm trying to put some stiffer springs in the front of my 78 Cougar, and I need some data on the stock front springs in order to figure out what other springs might swap in with little modification. I know that our front springs have one squared and one tangential end, but can anyone give me the specs on spring wire diameter, number of coils, spring OD, and free length? With this data I can figure out what kind of spring rate and ride height, etc. I'm looking for. Also, if anyone on this forum has put the TRW or Moog CS862 'heavy duty' front springs in their cars, I'd be interested to hear your comments about them.
Thanks a bunch!

Mike

hey there marine...

i would reccommend the moog springs you mentioned. i have a set in the front of my 79 troof holding up a 514, and the support is near perfect! nice ride nice height, and great weight transfer ;)
they are perfect on the street. because as you know they didn't put our birds on diet!!

Hi Gearworks,

What kind of 60' times can you get out of your Bird? You mentioned weight transfer so I'm geussing your taken your car to a track a few times? Big difference in et & mph going from 460-514? I've got a 466 in mine and due to case of bad luck, it's going to need a rebuild sooner than I hoped for... something larger might be an option.
