shifter cable and a new bird

hi guys,
I just got a new t-bird! It's a 90 with a 3.8, and I figure that if Im' going to have something for everyday transportaion during the winter and a backup car for the summer, might as well have another bird. I don't really like the v6, but i don't know how to shoehorn my 400M in ...yet.
On a worse note, my friend in Delhi went to move my 78 bird off the lift in my garage, he put it in reverse, backed it off, and he says it won't go into drive, neutral is as far as it goes. Do you guys think the cable may have frozen, or does it sound like something else? Just wondering what you all thought...

take the shifter cable off the trans and try to maually shift it that way. if it works then youre cable is shot. if not, then youve got other internal problems...

Does anyone know where I can find a new shifter cable? Even though it looks like a great excuse to drop in my manual tranny, I'm going to hold off a bit longer, but I do want to find a new cable. I'm a bit weary of pulling one in the junkyard just to find out it goes bad in another 6000 miles. Any info would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
Lee
