Buckets & Console

I had an exciting day at the local u-pull yard today. I have been looking at these 77-79 birds for a few years. Today I saw my first bucket seat floor shift with console car. I have seen some neat cars, T-top, Factorytach, cassettedeck etc. But seeing the bucket console interior was really cool.

Buckets

My '78 has buckets with console and floor shifter, 40K original owner (father bought it new in '78), he gave it to me about 15yrs ago and I still haven't changed the title. I've probably only seen about 3 or 4 others with the option. For some reason they did not make/sell a lot of them. I remember seeing a few Birds with the sports package ( belt buckles on the trunk) in the 80's, but I haven't seen any in the past 10yrs on the road or web. Where did they go? I have seen some interesting colour combos over the years on some birds (green with dark green roof and bottom, blue, black, red with tan top and bottom). Mine is all black (vinyl roof and bottom), with tan interior (med. and light chamois) got to admit it looks good. I got the big block itch a few years ago and dropped a '69 429/C6 mildly worked over and it really changed the personality of the car. I have some motor and wheels issue, but I'll save that for another post.

No I didnt the seats would need recovering and the console would need some repair. I guess I could pull them but even if someone wanted them they are quite large to ship. Did you ever find the burgandy dash pad? I saw one and it looked pretty good.

The console is nice. I picked one up late last year out of a local yard along with the floor shift for $90.00 The seats were mice nests, so I passed on them. Later out I found that you can't have the tilt wheel column with the bucket/console setup unless you want to look at the remains of the column shift indicator. Haven't decided which way to go yet. I like the console, but I love the tilt-wheel. Why can't we all just have our cake and eat it too?

On E-Bay right now there is a Thunderbird for sale with buckets/console/floor shifter and the seller claims it is 1 of only 200 so equipped. He does not indicate where the production numbers come from.

I think you're refering to this car.

My interior is exactly the same as this one except mine is med and light tan where his is red and white. The seats are very good and comfortable. If someone is looking for a GREAT parts car this is the one, a little expensive mind you.

If someone is looking for a "different" car, this may be what you're looking for!!!! :puke

I just love the Turbo Coupes - I've had at least four of them and with a few easy mods - they are really fast enjoyable cars. 5 speed only.....
